Temu has grown quickly as a marketplace – and promotions have become one of the main ways sellers can increase visibility and attract more customers.
Used well, they can do a lot for your business:
- Get your products featured on the Temu homepage
- Increase conversion by giving customers a stronger reason to act
- Work through excess inventory without making permanent price changes
- Capture demand during seasonal peaks when platform traffic is at its highest
The platform runs multiple activities simultaneously, across different formats and goals. Understanding how each one works – and when to use it – helps you make better decisions about where to focus your efforts.
What Are Temu Promotions?
Temu promotions are structured, platform-supported activities that give your products better pricing visibility and dedicated placement.
You manage everything in the Temu Seller Center under the Promotions tab. From there, you can browse available activities, register products, set discounted prices, and allocate inventory.
There are four types – each solving a different problem.
The 4 Types of Temu Promotions
Most sellers don’t rely on one format. The right choice depends on your goal: clearing stock, generating velocity, maintaining ongoing discounts, or capitalizing on seasonal moments.
Clearance Deals
Duration: 14 days
Clearance Deals are designed for situations where you have high stock levels and want to increase sell-through rate over a focused two-week window.
The promotion runs with dedicated homepage banner placement in Temu’s clearance section, giving your listings additional exposure to customers browsing for value during that period.
How pricing works: The activity base price you set determines the discounted price customers see. Temu’s rule is simple – the lower the base price, the lower the activity price. Plan your margins before you register.
Best for:
- Overstocked or slow-moving products
- Discontinued sizes, colors, or variations
- Reducing stock levels before launching new inventory
Lightning Deals
Duration: 7 days
Lightning Deals are about urgency and exposure.
They run for seven days and feature your products in the “Featured Deals” section on Temu’s homepage. The combination of limited time and prominent placement creates the kind of buying pressure that moves inventory fast.
The mechanism is simple: when customers know an offer expires, they act. That urgency improves click-through and conversion in ways that standard listings don’t.
Best for:
- High-demand products where extra exposure directly converts to sales
- Product launches that need early momentum
- Short-term competitive pushes in crowded categories
Official Big Sale
Duration: Variable
Official Big Sale is Temu’s low-barrier entry into time-limited discounting – with flexible timing that suits sellers who want continuous promotional presence, not just short bursts.
The “official” framing matters. These promotions come with homepage banner placement and are presented to customers as platform-endorsed sales events. That adds credibility even for products that aren’t currently trending.
The entry barrier is lower compared to other promotion types, which means more of your catalog is likely eligible. Good for sellers who want broad promotional coverage rather than concentrating exposure on a few select SKUs.
Best for:
- Maintaining ongoing discounts across a wider product range
- Long-term pricing strategy without a hard expiration date
- Categories where consistent visibility matters more than short spikes
Advanced Big Sale
Duration: Variable
Advanced Big Sale is designed for peak moments – seasonal events, holidays, and shopping occasions when customer intent is at its highest.
Temu builds themed campaigns around these events and Advanced Big Sale gives you a structured way to participate. Your enrolled products get homepage activity banner placement during the campaign, when platform traffic is already elevated.
This one requires planning. Products, pricing, and stock need to be ready before the campaign launches – not during. But for sellers whose catalogs align with seasonal demand, it consistently delivers some of the highest returns of any promotion type.
Best for:
- Products that match holiday themes or seasonal occasions
- Sellers who plan inventory and pricing ahead of peak periods
- Capturing demand spikes without relying on paid advertising
How to Register for a Temu Promotion
The registration flow is the same across all four promotion types.
Temu Seller Center → Homepage → Promotions
The process works in five steps:
- Browse available activities. Temu sends invitations on a rolling basis – multiple promotions are usually open at any time.
- Join or add products. Click “Join Now” to register for a new activity, or “Add products” if you’re already participating.
- Set the activity base price. This is the discounted price used during the promotion. You can use the system’s recommended price or set your own.
- Set activity quantity. This allocates inventory to the promotion and is deducted from your available stock until the activity ends.
- Submit and confirm. View your registered activities or continue registering for others.
A product can be enrolled in multiple promotions simultaneously. Temu will show only one promotion at a time – the one with the highest discount percentage.
How to Choose the Right Promotion for Your Goal
Not sure which promotion type fits your situation? This table maps common seller goals to the most relevant activity.
| Your goal | Best promotion type |
| Reduce stock levels on slow-moving products | Clearance Deals |
| Give a high-demand product a short visibility boost | Lightning Deals |
| Keep a broad range of products in a promotional state | Official Big Sale |
| Align your catalog with an upcoming holiday or seasonal event | Advanced Big Sale |
| Move discontinued sizes or variations | Clearance Deals |
| Support a product launch with early sales momentum | Lightning Deals |
| Maintain competitive pricing over an extended period | Official Big Sale |
| Participate in a themed Temu platform campaign | Advanced Big Sale |
Most sellers use a mix of types depending on what’s happening in their catalog at a given time. The table above is a starting point – your specific inventory situation and sales history will shape the final decision.
What to Keep in Mind Before Registering for a Promotion
Promotions are straightforward to set up, but a little preparation before you register makes a meaningful difference in results.
Start with a clear objective
Each promotion type is built around a different goal. Before selecting an activity, it helps define what you’re looking to achieve – whether that’s increasing visibility for a specific product, working through higher stock levels, or taking advantage of seasonal traffic. A focused approach is easier to evaluate afterward and easier to build on.
Review your pricing before you commit
The activity base price you set during registration determines the discounted price customers see. It’s worth reviewing this per SKU rather than applying the same adjustment across your full catalog. Different products have different margins, and the right activity price will vary accordingly.
Choose products with the right inventory levels
Promotions work best when the products enrolled have enough stock to support the activity for its full duration. Running out of inventory mid-promotion means losing the placement benefit you signed up for. It’s also worth checking that the products you select have solid listing quality – clear images, accurate descriptions, and up-to-date details.
Plan around timing
Some promotion types benefit more from timing than others. Advanced Big Sale is designed specifically for seasonal peaks, so registering early – before campaign traffic arrives – gives you the best chance of capturing that demand. Lightning Deals, with their seven-day window, also perform well when scheduled around periods of higher platform activity.
Track results at the promotion level
Once a promotion ends, it’s worth looking beyond total sales to understand what actually happened. Conversion rate, the quantity sold relative to what you allocated, and whether the activity price held through the full duration all give you a clearer picture of what’s worth repeating next time.
Managing Temu Promotions at Scale with M2E Multichannel Connect
Running a single promotion on Temu is straightforward. Running ten – across four promotion types, hundreds of SKUs, and multiple inventory locations – is a different kind of work.
M2E Multichannel Connect is an enterprise-level solution with 18+ years of marketplace integration experience, built for sellers who need to manage large catalogs across Temu and other channels without the overhead of doing it manually.

One place for your catalog, pricing, and promotions
The core idea is simple: instead of switching between your ecommerce platform and Temu Seller Center to keep things aligned, you manage promotion enrollment, pricing, and inventory from one place – directly inside M2E, connected to your store.
That means when stock levels change in Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or Ecwid, your Temu promotions stay accurate. When you need to refresh your active promotion data, a single sync pulls everything in. And when you want to enroll a large product selection into a promotion, you don’t do it one SKU at a time.
Promotion Policies: one configuration, applied at scale
The key mechanism in M2E’s Temu promotion management is the Promotion Policy. Rather than configuring pricing and quantity settings product by product, you create a policy once and assign it to the promotion itself – so it applies consistently across every product enrolled.
Quantity settings give you control over how much inventory is allocated to the promotion:
- By default, M2E uses the quantity from your existing Temu listings
- Shopify users can choose which inventory locations to pull from – all online locations combined, or a specific selection
- A percentage decrease lets you allocate only part of your available stock.
Price settings let you define the activity price relative to your base listing price, with two modification types:
- Absolute Value Increase/Decrease – a fixed amount added or subtracted (e.g. $5 decrease on a $100 base = $95 activity price)
- Percentage Increase/Decrease – a percentage adjustment (e.g. 10% decrease on a $100 base = $90 activity price)
This makes it practical to run promotions across a diverse catalog where different product categories have different margin structures – without having to manage each one separately.
Validation built into the workflow
When you submit products for a promotion through M2E, they go through Temu’s standard validation process. Any products that don’t meet the requirements come back with a specific warning – so you can see exactly what needs to be addressed and resolve it without having to resubmit everything from scratch.
For the full step-by-step setup, see the M2E documentation on managing Temu promotions.
Where to Go from Here
Temu’s four promotion types cover a wide range of seller situations – from working through seasonal stock to building sustained visibility across your catalog. The right starting point is usually the one that matches what you’re trying to accomplish right now.
If you haven’t used Temu promotions before, the Temu Seller Center Promotions tab is where available activities are listed. Invitations come in on a rolling basis, and joining one takes just a few steps.
If you’re already running promotions but managing them manually across a larger catalog, it’s worth looking at how M2E Multichannel Connect can connect that workflow to your ecommerce platform – so pricing, inventory, and promotion status stay consistent without extra coordination effort.
